Blade Maidens: My Sister’s Keeper – 1
“Vampire bites are a curious thing. While undeniably dangerous and the cause of many deaths, there are also dozens of the undead living across Telos without killing a soul.
Contrary to folklore, a vampire bite does not turn the victim into a vampire themself. Complete exsanguination and drinking blood of a vampire prior to death are the requisites for that particular fate. But a combination of razor sharp fangs (some sporting small serrations to further encourage bleeding) and the ability to secrete both anticoagulants and coagulants at will, if a vampire is careless when feeding it is easy to bleed their meal dry shockingly fast.
The satiating impact of a particular feeding varies depending on the person providing the blood in question. A well-fed, content person’s blood is far more filling than the ill and elderly. Some vampires have even noted distinct flavor profiles between individuals depending on their lifestyle and–somehow–personality. Perhaps a psychological effect? Or a lingering presence of a gift from Anteverra? Only further research will tell, I fear.”
– A passage from Blood for Blood, a controversial medical text by Jeyna Korrander, noted vampire.
