Blade Maidens: My Sister’s Keeper – 5
“The Verdannian line of succession is, somewhat uniquely among the great houses, matrilineal. From the dawn of Queen Columbine’s rule to the current crown princess of Lysithea Lilaceae, the throne has passed from mother to daughter–with a few exceptions–for centuries.
For their part, the men of Verdanna’s royal family seem perfectly content in the situation. A long, proud history of warriors, scholars, and mages alike, the Kings and Princes of Verdanna view their lack of contention for the throne as something of a license to pursue their own interests. The dozens of rakish Verdannian nobles populating our plays and histories are proof enough of that, I fear.
Don’t let this serve as a blanket to cover the entirety of the family, of course. Prince Lysander is currently rising the ranks of Freehold’s collegiate labyrinth, with many speculating that a future Chancellorship might be on the horizon in the coming years. Only time will tell, I’m afraid…and this column, of course.”
An entry in the long-running tabloid column “The Rules of Ruling”, documenting the royal families of Telos.
